MANDI:
On Saturday, October 4, 2025, Anurag Thakur, the former Union Minister and current MP from Hamirpur, firmly rejected rumors regarding his candidacy for the chief minister position in Himachal Pradesh for the upcoming Assembly elections.
During a press conference in Mandi, Thakur described these speculations as “entirely unfounded” and urged that they be dismissed. He emphasized, “I am a dedicated party worker, and my primary focus is on strengthening the organization.”
Thakur clarified that his involvement in the upcoming elections would be as a regular party member, as designated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He stated, “Discussions on social media lack any basis. Such thoughts have never crossed my mind, nor have they been entertained within the party.”
When questioned about his desire to re-enter state politics, Thakur smiled and replied, “I am already engaged in Himachal politics. I am thankful to the people of Hamirpur for electing me five times to represent their interests in Parliament.”
He added a personal note, saying, “Hamirpur is my constituency, and Mandi is where my in-laws reside. If anything arises in Mandi, I will be there without hesitation.”
In conclusion, the senior BJP leader stated that it is the duty of every party member to assist in restoring the BJP's influence in Himachal Pradesh, which he believes has diminished under the current Congress administration. “It is our shared responsibility to fortify the party and guide the state back towards progress,” he remarked.
