Budget Session 2026 to start from January 28, confirms Kiren Rijiju; Budget presentation likely on Feb 1
Budget 2026: The Budget Session of Parliament will begin on January 28, 2026, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Friday. He said the President of India has approved the summoning of both Houses of Parliament for the session.
Rijiju said the Budget Session will run till 2 April 2026 and will be held in two phases with the first part will conclude on February 13, and Parliament will meet again from March 9, with the President set to address a joint sitting of both Houses on the opening day of the session.

He said the schedule marks the start of the annual financial exercise and added that the session will facilitate discussion and debate on key economic proposals.
The Union Budget is likely scheduled to be presented on February 1, sources told ET earlier this week.
For the past several years, the budget has been presented on February 1, a practice introduced in 2017.
This year, however, February 1 falls on a Sunday, coinciding with Guru Ravidas Jayanti. This has sparked speculation over whether the government will maintain the tradition or reschedule the budget presentation.
This session will also see debates on the Economic Survey, which reviews economic performance over the past year and sets the context for the Budget. It is likely scheduled for January 29.
