CBSE Introduces On-Screen Marking for Class 12 Board Exams 2026, Seeks Teacher Data from Schools
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a major shift in its evaluation system for the Class 12 Board Exams 2026, introducing a digital assessment method known as On-Screen Marking (OSM). The initiative aims to accelerate the checking process, enhance accuracy, and improve transparency in result preparation. As part of the rollout, the board has instructed affiliated schools to submit details of teachers handling Classes 11 and 12.
According to the official notification, schools must update the required teacher data on the OASIS portal
On-Screen Marking is a digital evaluation system where scanned copies of answer sheets are assessed online rather than physically. Evaluators log into a secure portal, view scanned scripts, and assign marks electronically.

To implement the new system smoothly, CBSE has directed all affiliated schools to update details of teachers who teach Classes 11 and 12. These educators will be eligible for evaluation duties under the OSM system.
The board emphasized that accurate data submission is essential to ensure timely evaluation and declaration of results. Any discrepancy or failure to upload information may be considered an attempt to obstruct the assessment process.
Training and Login Credentials for EvaluatorsBefore evaluation begins, selected teachers will receive mandatory training
This training is intended to ensure that teachers can use the digital system effectively, minimizing technical errors and ensuring uniform marking standards.
Why CBSE Is Switching to Digital EvaluationThe board outlined several reasons for introducing On-Screen Marking for Class 12 answer sheets:
-
Faster evaluation: More teachers can participate simultaneously, speeding up the process.
-
Reduced calculation errors:
Lower manual intervention: Automation minimizes chances of human mistakes.
Quicker result processing: Less need for post-result verification of marks.
Reduced manpower requirement: Fewer staff needed for verification and coordination tasks.
Cost and time savings: Eliminates transportation of physical answer sheets.
Convenience for teachers: Evaluators can check copies from their own schools while continuing regular duties.
Global participation: Teachers from CBSE-affiliated schools worldwide can contribute to evaluation.
For students, the new system is expected to make result declarations faster and more reliable, as digital tools help prevent totaling mistakes or lost answer sheets. For schools, the change means greater participation in the evaluation process and stricter compliance requirements for submitting teacher data on time.
The Bigger PictureCBSE’s move toward On-Screen Marking reflects a broader trend in education boards worldwide adopting digital assessment technologies. By digitizing answer sheet evaluation, the board aims to modernize its examination ecosystem and align with global standards of transparency and efficiency.
With the February deadline approaching, schools are expected to act quickly to update teacher information, ensuring a smooth transition to CBSE’s new digital marking framework for the 2026 Class 12 board exams.
