Delhi Airport flight cancellations today: 110 flights cancelled, over 200 delayed
Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) were severely affected on Sunday as dense fog reduced visibility, leading to large-scale disruptions. A total of 110 flights were cancelled, while more than 370 services were delayed, causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers.
According to officials, 59 arriving flights and 51 departing flights were cancelled due to poor visibility conditions. Data from flight tracking website Flightradar24 showed that the average delay for departing flights was around 26 minutes.

Fog Continues to Disrupt Delhi Airport Operations
Despite the disruptions, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), which operates IGIA, said flight operations were running smoothly. In a post on X, the airport operator stated that necessary low-visibility procedures were in place to ensure safety.
IGIA is the country’s busiest airport and typically handles around 1,300 flights daily. However, dense fog over the past several days has affected flight schedules not just in Delhi, but across several airports in northern India.
IndiGo Issues Advisory Amid Low Visibility
Earlier, IndiGo issued a travel advisory warning passengers of possible delays and schedule changes due to early-morning fog in Delhi and other parts of northern India. The airline said reduced visibility during these hours could affect flight operations.
“Early-morning fog is expected to affect visibility across Delhi and parts of northern India. During these hours, visibility can suddenly reduce, impacting flight operations,” IndiGo said, adding that passenger safety remained its top priority.
The airline advised travellers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport and said affected passengers could rebook their tickets or request refunds through its official website.
Fog-Related Disruptions Extend to Other Airports
Low visibility conditions also impacted other airports. On Saturday, Over 66 arrival and departure flights were cancelled at Delhi airport due to dense fog. Separately, four flights were cancelled at Srinagar Airport, including services to and from Delhi and Amritsar, owing to adverse weather in those cities.
In another advisory issued early Sunday, IndiGo said fog over Bengaluru and Amritsar had disrupted flight schedules, and assured passengers that teams were closely monitoring weather conditions.
Delhi Airport Activates Low-Visibility Procedures
Delhi Airport earlier confirmed that low-visibility procedures were underway due to dense fog. In a morning advisory, the airport said flight operations were functioning normally but urged passengers to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest updates.
“Low Visibility Procedures are still in progress at Delhi Airport. Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest flight information,” the statement said.
Air India Warns of Network-Wide Impact, Launches ‘FogCare’
Air India also cautioned passengers about possible network-wide disruptions due to dense fog in Delhi and parts of northern and eastern India. The airline said it had taken proactive steps to minimise inconvenience.
Highlighting its ‘FogCare’ initiative, Air India said eligible passengers would receive advance alerts and could change flights without additional charges or opt for a full refund without penalty if their flights were likely to be affected.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused by these weather disruptions. The safety and well-being of our guests and crew remain our highest priority,” the airline said.
Dense Fog a Recurring Winter Challenge in North India
Dense fog is a recurring winter phenomenon in North India and often disrupts air, rail and road transport. Airlines and airport authorities have advised passengers to allow extra travel time and regularly check flight updates during the fog season.
Passengers travelling over the next few days are urged to remain alert, follow airline advisories and plan accordingly to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
