New Delhi: The central government's "e-Shram Yojana" is proving to be a boon for providing social security and economic strength to millions of unorganized workers in the country. This scheme not only creates a national database of workers, but also provides them with completely free accident insurance coverage of up to ₹2 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY).
If you haven't yet made your e-Shram card, you can make it yourself in minutes by following the simple process given here. Step-by-step process of online registration The registration process on the e-Shram portal is completely digital and free. You can complete it by following these steps from your smartphone or laptop: First, go to the official portal eshram.gov.in and click on the 'Register on e-Shram' link. Enter your Aadhaar linked mobile number and the captcha code displayed on the screen.
After this, you will receive an OTP, enter it and click 'Validate'. In the next step, verify your personal details like name, address and date of birth as per Aadhaar. After this, you will have to provide your educational qualification, type of work you do (business) and your income details. Finally, fill in your bank account number and IFSC code correctly to avail government benefits. On submitting the form, your 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN) will be generated and you will be able to download your e-Shram card.
Its biggest advantage is that the government itself pays its premium: Accidental death: In case of death of a worker in an accident, the nominee gets assistance of ₹ 2 lakh. Total disability: There is a provision of ₹ 2 lakh even if the worker becomes completely disabled due to an accident.
You must be between 16 and 59 years of age and be in the unorganized sector (such as a construction worker, street vendor, agricultural laborer, domestic worker, or driver).
