EPFO to Launch E-PRAAPTI Portal: Easy Withdrawal from Old and Inactive PF Accounts

Newspoint

In a major relief for millions of salaried employees across India, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation is preparing to roll out a new digital platform called E-PRAAPTI. This upcoming portal is expected to simplify access to old and inactive Provident Fund (PF) accounts, allowing users to retrieve their long-forgotten savings without unnecessary hurdles.

For many workers, especially those who have changed jobs multiple times, tracking old PF accounts has often been a complicated and frustrating process. Missing account details, unlinked records, or lack of employer support have led to significant amounts of money remaining stuck in dormant accounts. The E-PRAAPTI portal aims to resolve these long-standing issues with a user-friendly, Aadhaar-based system.

What is E-PRAAPTI and Why It Matters

E-PRAAPTI stands for EPF Aadhaar-Based Access Portal for Tracking Inoperative Accounts

. As the name suggests, it is designed to help users locate, access, and manage inactive PF accounts using Aadhaar authentication. This eliminates the need to depend on previous employers, which has traditionally been one of the biggest bottlenecks in the process.

The announcement of this portal was made by Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who described it as a “user-driven system.” This means employees will have direct control over their accounts, reducing dependency on third parties and ensuring faster resolution of issues.

Key Features of the E-PRAAPTI Portal

The new portal is expected to bring several practical benefits for PF subscribers:

  • Aadhaar-Based Verification: Users can identify and authenticate their old PF accounts using Aadhaar, making the process secure and straightforward.
  • No UAN Required Initially: Even if your old PF account is not linked to a Universal Account Number (UAN), you will still be able to access it through this platform.
  • No Employer Dependency: Employees will no longer need to approach previous employers for account activation or corrections.
  • Phased Implementation: Initially, the portal will assist users who have their old Member ID. In later stages, it will also help those who have forgotten their account details entirely.

This initiative is particularly beneficial for individuals who have switched jobs frequently or worked in the unorganized sector, where record-keeping may not always be consistent.

Faster Claim Settlements: A Positive Trend

The launch of E-PRAAPTI comes at a time when EPFO has already made significant improvements in claim settlement efficiency. Recent data shows a remarkable rise in processed claims:

  • In the financial year 2025–26, a record 8.31 crore claims were settled.
  • This marks a substantial increase from 6.01 crore claims in the previous year—nearly a 38% jump.
  • Many advance withdrawal claims are now processed within just three days through automated systems.

Additionally, the removal of requirements such as uploading cheque book copies and simplifying bank account seeding has made the overall process smoother for users.

Growing Dependence on PF Withdrawals

Interestingly, the data also highlights a growing reliance on PF savings for financial needs. Out of the total claims processed, over 5.5 crore were related to advance or partial withdrawals. This indicates that employees are increasingly using their PF funds for emergencies, education, medical expenses, and other personal requirements.

With the introduction of E-PRAAPTI, accessing these funds is expected to become even more seamless, especially for those who previously faced delays due to technical or administrative issues.

A Step Toward Transparency and Convenience

The government’s broader objective behind launching this portal is to eliminate unnecessary paperwork and bring greater transparency to the PF system. By digitizing access and empowering users, E-PRAAPTI is set to ensure that no employee’s hard-earned savings remain locked due to outdated processes or missing documentation.

As India continues to embrace digital governance, initiatives like E-PRAAPTI reflect a clear shift toward citizen-centric services. For millions of PF subscribers, this could mean finally reclaiming funds that were once thought to be lost—quickly, easily, and without complications.
