The Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) has been tasked to develop a centre of excellence focused on precision manufacturing, union railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said Monday. He said the transport and logistics focused central university should aim to annually produce around 1000 graduates in this domain and diversify its offerings to include the maritime sector.

Vaishnaw, who as Railway Minister is the chancellor of this university, said there is no dearth of funds and German, United States, and Japanese standards should be brought to the country.

“There will be no fund constraints for setting up precision manufacturing centres at GSV,” the minister said adding a pipeline of talent needs to be in place to meet the requirement of the electronics, marine, aviation, and railways industry coming up in the country.

Vaishnaw said the university has already started meeting manpower requirements of aviation, defence, and railway industry. He said GSV should also scale up its maritime training centres and talks are underway with the ministry of ports, shipping, and waterways to facilitate the same.

France-headquartered Airbus inaugurated a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for aerospace studies at GSV last month. In November 2025 Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and GSV signed an agreement to collaborate on facilitating the development of technological solutions for deployment aspects of indigenous defence systems.
