Goods Train Derails After Rock Falls On Tracks, Services To Odisha Disrupted

Koraput: Train services on Kottavalasa-Kirandul railway line, linking Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh, faced major disruptions on Sunday after a goods train derailed after collision with a large rock on the tracks.

According to sources, the incident occurred at around 4 am between Chimidipali and Tayada stations in Andhra Pradesh, where train number 41204 hit the rock, which had crashed onto the KK railway line from a nearby hillside, causing its engine to derail. No injuries were reported, but the accident blocked the route, disrupting movement of passenger and freight trains.

Railway authorities immediately halted traffic on the affected section and began clearance and repair works, overseen by the Visakhapatnam Railway Division to restore services quickly.

Following the mishap, Visakhapatnam-Kirandul passenger train (58501) was cancelled, and the Kirandul-Visakhapatnam passenger train (58502) was halted at Koraput and returned to Kirandul, the sources added.
