The central government is running a scheme for this purpose, which can reduce your home's electricity bill to almost zero. It's called the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. Electricity Bill Will Be Zero

The PM Surya Ghar Yojana is very beneficial for families who are troubled by rising electricity bills every month. Under this scheme, solar panels are installed on the roof of your house. Once the panels are installed, you can use electricity for years without any worries. Solar panels typically have a lifespan of about 25 years.

This means that the worry of electricity bills is practically eliminated for more than two decades. However, before installing the panels, it's important to understand your daily electricity consumption. The capacity of the solar panels should be determined accordingly, so that you get enough electricity to meet your needs and avoid unnecessary expenses.

Free Electricity and Government Subsidy

The biggest advantage of this scheme is not just free electricity, but also a substantial subsidy. The government provides up to 300 units of free electricity every month. In addition, a direct subsidy is also given for installing solar panels. If you install a system up to 2 kilowatts, you get a subsidy of Rs. 30,000 per kilowatt. For systems up to 3 kilowatts, a subsidy of Rs. 48,000 per kilowatt is fixed. Meanwhile, a subsidy of up to Rs 78,000 is provided for systems with a capacity of more than 3 kilowatts.

When you generate your own electricity at home, the fear of high electricity bills disappears. You don't need to worry about checking the meter before using geysers and heaters in winter. In summer, you can use air conditioners and coolers without hesitation. The best part is that the excess electricity generated during the day goes back into the grid, and you benefit from it through net metering. This means that if your consumption is low in a particular month, those units can be adjusted in the following months.

How to apply from home

Applying for the PM Surya Ghar Yojana is quite easy. First, visit the website pmsuryaghar.gov.in. On the homepage, select the "Apply for Rooftop Solar" option. Then select your state and electricity distribution company. After that, enter your electricity consumer number, mobile number, and email address. After logging in, a form will open where you will have to apply for the RTS panel according to the given instructions.

After this, you will receive feasibility approval. Then, get the panel installed through a vendor registered with DISCOM. After installation, apply for a net meter. After the inspection is complete and the commissioning certificate is issued, submit your bank details and a cancelled cheque on the portal. The subsidy will then be credited directly to your account.
