We had earlier reported that Kangana Ranaut is currently gearing up for Queen 2. The Kangana Ranaut-starrer, which followed Rani’s transformative solo honeymoon after being left at the altar, struck a chord with audiences and went on to become a major success. Now, it looks like Rani is ready to return to the big screen.

According to recent developments, Kangana is set to reunite with filmmaker Vikas Bahl for Queen 2

Hero Image
, with production expected to begin by the end of April. However, the sequel won’t directly continue the events of the first film. Instead, it will build on the original’s core themes of self-discovery and independence, while introducing a fresh narrative.

A source shared insights into the new direction: “In Queen 2, Kangana's Rani will be a city girl unlike the small-town girl in the original. She will be smart, strong, and quirky, but a plot point will send her on the road of self-discovery. It will show how she conquers life through her individuality, self-realisation, and courage. While the first one saw her travelling to Paris and Amsterdam alone, this journey will take her across cities in India.”

Unlike the original film, the sequel will feature an entirely new supporting cast, with no returning characters. Bahl is reportedly looking at theatre actors to bring authenticity and freshness to the story. The production is expected to begin in a Mumbai studio, where detailed sets representing a North Indian city and the protagonist’s home will be constructed.

“The unit will kick off the project in a Mumbai studio, where a set reflecting a North Indian city and another depicting the protagonist's home will be built. After the Mumbai leg, they will move to other metro cities. The film will be completed in a start-to-finish schedule of three months,” the source added.

The original Queen was backed by Phantom Films and Viacom18 Motion Pictures. However, with Phantom Films, founded by Vikramaditya Motwane, Anurag Kashyap, Madhu Mantena, and Vikas Bahl, having shut down in 2018, the sequel will now be produced under Bahl’s own banner, with him also serving as the writer.

Following Queen 2, Kangana is expected to move on to another major project: Tanu Weds Manu 3

, which will be directed by Aanand L. Rai, marking yet another significant chapter in her career.
