Mangaluru: New road cut open within a month!

Newspoint

JEPPINAMOGARU: The new road connecting Jeppinamogaru to the city via Mahakalipadpu was constructed only recently. However, within a month, the concrete has been dug up at several locations. To allow rainwater collected on the road to flow into the drains, the concrete has been cut to construct chambers. These cuts in the concrete have been made at intervals of every 10 to 15 feet.

During the construction of the road, no provision was made for rainwater drainage. For this reason, the digging work has been taken up now after the road was fully completed. Digging has been carried out next to the underpass, where drainage chambers have been built and fitted with lids. In other parts of the same road, the digging work is still ongoing.

Damage to footpaths

Footpath work had been completed alongside the road leading from Jeppinamogaru towards Mahakalipadpu. However, because work that should have been done first is being done later, the well-constructed footpaths and chamber lids have been damaged. Public outrage has been expressed against the officials' actions for wasting taxpayers' money through unscientific execution of work.

Cracks in the road!

Within just two weeks of the inauguration of the new Mahakalipadpu road, cracks have appeared on the stretch near the railway underpass. The public has alleged that the work is of poor quality. There is also a concern among citizens that the cracks might widen due to vehicle movement, further damaging the concrete road.

Nuisance of several other issues; incomplete work

After passing the underpass on the road leading from Morgan’s Gate and Cascia towards Jeppinamogaru, there is no footpath facility for pedestrians. The area where the footpath was supposed to be built remains as it is, with only a temporary fence installed. Pedestrians are forced to walk on the road through the underpass. Furthermore, incomplete footpaths at various points on this road have turned into a problem for commuters.

Must climb steps to walk

Previously, water logging in the underpass had created severe hurdles for the construction work. Inside the underpass, the footpath has been built at a height of about 2 to 3 feet. Temporary iron steps have been provided to climb onto it. There are complaints that many people, including senior citizens, are unable to climb these steps to get across.
