MP: Alirajpur CEO files FIR against BJP leader over threats, sparks row on women's safety
Alirajpur, April 23 (IANS) A major controversy has erupted in Madhya Pradesh after Alirajpur District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Priya Kag on Thursday lodged an FIR against Inder Singh Chauhan, husband of the District Panchayat President, accusing him of threatening and attempting to assault her inside a government office.
In her complaint, Kag said that some applications were cancelled following scrutiny as per government's guidelines, which clearly said that only eligible, unmarried beneficiaries can avail the scheme.
During verification, it was found that some applicants were already married, and in some cases, they had even attached copies of their wedding invitation cards, effectively confirming their ineligibility.
The issue escalated when Chauhan allegedly confronted Kag at the District office over these cancellations.
As per the complaint, Chauhan began shouting near the main gate, questioning the rejection of the applications and objecting to the action taken by the administration.
Alirajpur District Panchayat CEO said that she tried to explain the rules and the reasons behind the cancellations, but Chauhan allegedly became aggressive.
In her complaint, Kag said: "Inder Singh Chuhan said he will break my teeth and kill me."
The situation reportedly turned tense when Chauhan allegedly moved towards Kag in an attempt to physically assault her.
However, Alirajpur district accounts officer Sawan Bhide intervened and restrained him, preventing the situation from escalating further.
Kag also alleged that Chauhan had earlier forcibly removed CCTV cameras from her office cabin, a matter she had reported to the Deputy Collector.
She added that the latest incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the district premises.
Expressing concern for her safety, Alirajpur Janpad Panchayat CEO said, "I feel unsafe both at my workplace and at my home. I request strict action in this matter."
Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and initiated an investigation.
Reacting to the incident, Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Umang Singhar said, "If a senior woman officer is threatened for taking action as per rules, it raises serious concerns about governance and women's safety," adding that the state government must ensure strict action without political interference.
