Telecom regulator TRAI has launched a new system for testing and rating digital connectivity within buildings. RANext Technologies has been authorized as the digital connectivity rating agency.

It has been given an important responsibility.

According to information released by TRAI, RANext Technologies will now evaluate the digital infrastructure in various properties across the country. This assessment will be based entirely on user experience, i.e., ratings will be based on how robust and reliable the network is in actual use.

This will include the quality of the fiber network, mobile connectivity within the building, broadband and Wi-Fi performance, as well as readiness for future smart technologies.

Why connectivity is important in the digital age

India is rapidly moving towards a digital-first economy, where work, education, banking, healthcare, and entertainment are almost entirely dependent on the internet. Nearly one billion people use the internet daily, and the adoption of smart homes and smart offices is rapidly growing.

Consequently, a building's digital performance has become a crucial component of its value and user experience.

A major shortage of modern buildings

Surprisingly, most new buildings are still not designed or tested for digital performance. As a result, network and internet-related problems arise during living or working, which later prove difficult and costly to resolve.

What is the DCRA Star Rating Framework?

TRAI's Digital Connectivity Rating Framework attempts to address this shortcoming.

It evaluates the digital connectivity and communication systems within a building against a set of standards and then assigns a star rating accordingly, providing a fair and accurate assessment of a property's digital readiness.

Both buyers and developers will benefit.

This initiative will encourage builders to incorporate robust digital infrastructure early in project design. It will also make it easier for home buyers and renters to understand the network and internet connectivity levels in a building.

Big step for digital infrastructure

According to Ankit Goyal, Chairman and Founder of Space World Group, RANext's parent company, this initiative positions the company not only as a provider of connectivity solutions but also as a trusted assessor of digital infrastructure. This move by TRAI could prove to be a game-changer for the digital experience in buildings in the future.
