PCB Chairman's Disappointment at T20 World Cup

Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the country's Interior Minister, was seen leaving the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo prior to Pakistan's crushing defeat against India in the T20 World Cup 2026 on February 15.

The team, led by Salman Ali Agha, faced a significant setback, losing by 61 runs to the Indian side captained by Suryakumar Yadav. Chasing a target of 176 runs, Pakistan was bowled out for just 114 runs in 18 overs, showcasing a lackluster performance against India's effective bowling attack.

Usman Khan was the standout performer for Pakistan, scoring 44 runs, while the rest of the batting lineup struggled to make an impact.

Embarrassment for Naqvi

Mohsin Naqvi attended the highly anticipated match, seated in the VIP section alongside Sri Lanka's President, Kumara Dissayanake. However, as Pakistan's innings deteriorated, he left the stadium in embarrassment after witnessing the team's rapid collapse, which left fans and officials stunned.

A video shared on social media captured Naqvi being escorted away in a black vehicle, accompanied by security personnel, as Pakistan's batting continued to falter.

Social Media Reaction to Naqvi's Exit

Following the viral video of his departure, Naqvi faced harsh criticism from Indian cricket fans, who mocked him for leaving early. Many took to social media platforms to ridicule him, referring to him as 'trophy chor' for allegedly taking the Asia Cup trophy instead of presenting it to India last September.

Fans humorously suggested he fled to avoid witnessing Pakistan's defeat, with some joking about his empty-handed exit and concerns over the safety of previous trophies.

Pakistan's Continued Struggles

After Naqvi's exit, Pakistan's performance further declined, leading to their total collapse below 120 runs and sealing a humiliating 61-run defeat. Notably, BCCI president Mithun Manhas and ICC chairman Jay Shah were also present at the match, witnessing India's dominant display.

Under Naqvi's leadership, Pakistan has not secured any major trophies, including the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy 2025, where they exited early. The controversial Asia Cup 2025 final also saw India retain the title, refusing to accept the trophy from Naqvi, leaving Pakistan without any silverware during his tenure.

Change in Stance on Boycott

Pakistan's earlier decision to boycott matches against India was reversed due to pressure from the ICC and various cricket boards, including those from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Emirates, leading to their participation in the match despite previous intentions.
