PM RAHAT Scheme: Free treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh will be provided in case of road accident, know the complete process, eligibility and how to claim..
PM RAHAT Scheme: The biggest problem in road accidents is that the injured person often doesn't receive timely treatment. Lack of funds often delays treatment. Addressing this issue, the Central Government has launched the Pradhan Mantri Rahat Road Accident Victim Hospitalization and Assured Treatment Scheme (PM RAHAT). The objective of this scheme is to ensure that no one is deprived of treatment after a road accident due to financial constraints.
What are the key features of the scheme?
Under this scheme, eligible road accident victims will receive cashless treatment up to a maximum of ₹1.5 lakh within 7 days of the accident. This means the patient or their family will not have to deposit any money at the hospital.
If the case is serious and life-threatening, immediate treatment (stabilization) will be provided for 48 hours. In milder, less serious cases, immediate treatment will be provided for 24 hours. This facility applies to any road accident in India.
Who can avail the benefits?
Anyone injured in a road accident.
The accident occurred in India
The patient was admitted to a government-empanelled hospital
First, the police will verify the accident through a digital system. Verification is required within 24 hours for non-serious cases and 48 hours for serious cases.
Who will pay for the treatment?
Payments to hospitals will be made from the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVAF). If the vehicle involved in the accident is insured, insurance companies will also contribute. The entire process will be conducted on a digital platform, ensuring transparency in payments and claims.
How to avail the scheme?
There is no need to apply separately for this scheme. It is automatically applied for. The process is also simple. To do this:
Call 112 after the accident.
The injured will be taken to the nearest empanelled hospital.
The hospital will register the patient on the portal. Aadhaar or other identification documents may be requested, but treatment will not be denied even if the documents are not available.
Why is this scheme important?
The first hour after a road accident is considered the "golden hour." Proper treatment during this time significantly increases the chances of survival. The PM RAHAT scheme is a major step in this direction. It will reduce the financial burden on victims and their families and ensure timely treatment. This scheme is considered an important initiative towards strengthening road safety and emergency health services.
