Prakambanam OTT release details: When and where to watch the hit Malayalam horror-comedy online
The Malayalam horror-comedy Prakambanam has quietly turned into one of the early success stories of 2026. After drawing steady crowds in theatres for weeks, the campus entertainer is now preparing for its digital release. Viewers who missed it on the big screen are waiting to know when and where they can stream it online.
Prakambanam OTT platform details
As per OTT Play, the streaming rights of Prakambanam have been acquired by ZEE5. While the platform has not officially announced the exact premiere date yet, reports suggest that the film is expected to begin streaming in the first week of March.

The makers have not issued a confirmed date so far, but with its theatrical run nearing completion, an early March digital debut looks likely. Once it lands on ZEE5, subscribers will be able to watch the horror-comedy from home.
Interestingly, ZEE5 has been picking up several Malayalam horror-comedy titles in recent months, including Nellikkampoyil Night Riders, Sumathi Valavu, and Paathirathri, which signals the platform’s growing interest in the genre.
A campus story with a supernatural twist
Directed by Vijesh Panathur, Prakambanam revolves around three college friends whose everyday hostel life spirals into complete confusion after an unusual incident. Ganapathi plays Sidhu, Sagar Surya appears as Punyalan, and Ameen is seen as Shankaran.
Set largely inside a men’s hostel in Kochi, the film blends campus politics, rivalry, pranks, and friendship with a supernatural angle. The central chaos begins when Jithu secretly plans to perform salvation rituals for his grandmother without informing his atheist father and uncle, who strongly oppose such practices. He postpones the rites, and in a bizarre turn, Punyalan accidentally inhales the grandmother’s ashes. This results in him being possessed by her spirit.
What follows is a mix of confusion, fear, arguments, and plenty of comic situations as the trio tries to deal with the unexpected possession. The film manages to keep things light even when it touches serious emotional undertones.
Cast and crew
Apart from the lead trio, the film features Sheetal Joseph, Azeez Nedumangad, P P Kunjikrishnan, Mallika Sukumaran, Aneesh Gopal and Sanesh Guinness in key roles. The screenplay is written by Sreehari Vadakkan, based on a story by director Vijesh Panathur.
On the technical side, Alby Antony handled cinematography, Sooraj E S took care of editing, and Subhash Karun worked as the art director. The film was produced by Sreejith, Sudhish, and Blessy under the banners of Navarasa Films and Lakshmikanth Creations.
Strong box office performance
Made on a reported budget of around Rs 5 crore, Prakambanam performed far beyond expectations. According to Sacnilk, the film saw a noticeable jump on day 23 by collecting Rs 34 lakh, which was a 61.9% rise compared to day 22’s Rs 21 lakh. Its India net collection reached Rs 13.28 crore, with a gross of Rs 15.67 crore. Within a month of release, reports claimed the film crossed Rs 20 crore worldwide, making it one of the surprise hits of the year.
In an interview with OTTplay, director Vijesh Panathur addressed questions about a sequel. He said, “I am currently working on my upcoming action fantasy thriller, so I will not be working on its sequel anytime soon.” He further added, “I am more excited to work on the sequel the more people ask me about it. When the sequel is released, I anticipate that the audience is going to love it as well.”
