State governments periodically launch various schemes to empower women financially and increase their participation in household decisions. The Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has announced a new financial assistance scheme for women. Under this scheme, a fixed amount will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible women every month. This announcement was made during the budget for the financial year 2026-27, marking the state government's decision to launch a new initiative to provide financial assistance to women. The government believes that regular financial assistance will strengthen women's financial position and enable them to play a more active role in family decisions.
Scheme Announced in the Budget
While presenting the budget in the Rajya Sabha, Finance Minister Harpal Singh announced the launch of the Chief Minister Mawan Dhiyaan Satkar Yojana. Under this scheme, eligible women in the state will receive monthly financial assistance. According to the government, women from the general category will receive ₹1,000 per month, while the amount for women from the Scheduled Castes will be increased to ₹1,500. This money will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. This scheme has been in discussion for a long time, as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had promised to provide ₹1,500 per month to women before the 2022 assembly elections. Now, the government has announced its implementation through the budget.
Which women will benefit from this scheme?
According to the government, this scheme will benefit a large number of women in the state. A woman must be at least 18 years of age or older to qualify for this scheme. Eligible women from the general category will receive ₹1,000 per month under this scheme. Women from Scheduled Castes will receive ₹1,500 per month, and women receiving old-age, widow, or disability pensions will also be eligible for this scheme. The government claims that approximately 97 percent of adult women in the state will be covered by this scheme. The government has not yet released the final application process and documents required for this scheme. However, such schemes typically require documents such as Aadhaar card, bank details, residence certificate, age certificate, and category-specific certificate.
