Cyber Fraud: The Railway Board has issued an important warning for its employees and pensioners. According to the Board, some cybercriminals are contacting employees posing as senior railway officials. Through phone calls, SMS, and WhatsApp messages, they are attempting to obtain personal and banking information to commit financial fraud.
Fraud in the Name of Officials
The statement stated that fraudsters are sending fake messages using the names of railway officials. These messages lure people with promises of PPO updates, KYC verification, or additional pension benefits. Under these pretexts, they are asking for bank details, OTPs, and other confidential information.
The Board has clarified that no authorized railway official asks for bank account numbers, passwords, or OTPs through phone calls, messages, or social media. Any such request should be immediately treated with suspicion.
Advice for Employees and Pensioners
The Railway Administration has specifically urged pensioners to be cautious. It has been clarified that the Railways does not send any links or messages to update PPOs or service records. If you receive such a message, do not trust it. The Board has also appealed to employees and pensioners to make their family members aware of these cyber fraud methods so that no one falls prey to them unintentionally.
Immediately Report Suspicious Calls
If anyone receives a suspicious call or message, they are advised to immediately report it to the police cyber cell and the relevant administrative office. In recent months, several employees have suffered financial losses after sharing confidential information, making this issue even more serious.
Preparation of a New Legal Framework for Cybersecurity
Meanwhile, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav recently stated that a comprehensive legal framework is being considered to address evolving cyber threats. Speaking at the India AI Summit 2026, he emphasized that IT and telecom companies must take cybersecurity seriously.
