Relief for Ration Card Holders as Mustard Oil Prices Drop in Himachal Pradesh
Ration card holders in Himachal Pradesh have received a welcome price relief this month, with the cost of mustard oil reduced at government fair price shops. The price has been cut from ₹160 per litre to ₹153 per litre, offering a saving of ₹7 per litre to beneficiaries.
Refined Oil Supply Resumes After Months
In addition to the price drop, authorities have also ensured the availability of refined oil, which had been in short supply for the past seven months. Following the completion of the tender process, supply orders have been issued, and refined oil will now be available at ₹135 per litre. This marks a slight increase compared to its earlier price of ₹125.
Updated Ration Distribution Details
Under the revised distribution system:
- APL families will receive 12 kg of wheat flour per family at ₹12
- Each family will also get 6 kg of rice priced at ₹13
The quantity of flour has been slightly increased compared to last month, when 11 kg was distributed.
Nearly 19 Lakh Beneficiaries to Gain
Around 1.9 million ration card holders across the state are expected to benefit from these changes. Officials confirmed that while mustard oil prices have decreased, refined oil prices have seen a marginal rise due to procurement costs.
Free Ration Under NFSA Continues
Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), eligible families—including BPL, PHH, and Antyodaya beneficiaries—will continue to receive 35 kg of ration free of cost. This includes approximately 18.8 kg of wheat flour and 15 kg of rice.
Improved Supply in Districts
Authorities have confirmed that refined oil supplies have already begun reaching fair price shops, particularly benefiting hundreds of thousands of families in districts like Kangra.
