As soon as he stopped his vehicle near his house, the attackers allegedly assaulted him with deadly weapons. The assault took place in front of his residence and in the presence of his mother.

Police said the victim’s mother cried for help while the attack was taking place, but the assailants continued the assault and fled after the murder.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast Division) Mithun Kumar said the accused had chased the victim and attacked him from behind when he stopped his vehicle near his house.

He confirmed that the identities of the suspects have been established and efforts are under way to trace and arrest them. He also stated that the victim had a criminal background.

Police further said Pavan Kumar was the fifth accused in the 2023 murder case of a man named Kapil in the city and had been jailed in connection with the case. He was released from prison in May 2025. About one-and-a-half months ago, his family had reportedly set up a bakery near their house in an effort to help him lead a normal life.
