Textile export to be hit because of West Asia conflict
Pune: The closure of the Strait of Hormuz will hurt India's garment and textile exporters, forcing vessels bound for the US and Europe to take the longer route around the Cape of Good Hope, industry executives said. The diversion is expected to increase transit time by 20-25 days as well as freight costs at a time when fashion businesses are operating on tight seasonal calendars. Longer shipping durations could also disrupt timely deliveries of season-specific merchandise, exporters warned. Shipping routes through the area are critical for consignments to Europe and the US.
