The Girlfriend filming locations including villa owned by Princess Diana's family

The Girlfriend is a much-awaited steamy thriller arriving on Prime Video on September 10 and thetrailer has already sparked considerable excitement among viewers.

Featuring Olivia Cooke and Robin Wright, the drama follows Laura, a wife and mother who appears to have everything until her cherished son introduces a new girlfriend.

Laura immediately grows wary of the fresh romantic interest - but could she simply be overthinking things?

The thriller also features Laurie Davidson, Tanya Moodie, Waleed Zuaiter and Shalom Brune-Franklin, and it pledges to keep audiences guessing.

The drama unfolds across several breathtaking locations and here's everything you need to know about its filming destinations.

Where is The Girlfriend filmed?

The drama was shot across two countries - the UK and Spain, with Laura's residence situated in upmarket London.

Ben Mangham, Supervising Location Manager, revealed: "The main location where Laura lives with her family was in St John's Wood in a very, very beautiful home, which we were very lucky to come across.

"The lady was refurbishing her house - four floors, five bedrooms, basement swimming pool - in leafy St John's Wood, and her house was empty and free for the whole summer.

"It is very rare that you come across a location like that, basically we got very lucky."

Additional crucial UK filming spots featured Syon House, a Soho gallery, and a quarry close to Chepstow, situated within the Welsh English border.

Regarding the Spanish sequences, filming commenced in Malaga city before relocating to Ronda and Marbella.

Location Manager Irene Manrique Matin praised the "beautiful" historic quarter in Marbella: "We recreated a big market in one of the most beautiful squares in the old town.

"We then ended up in our beautiful house called Villa Tramores which is located in the most exclusive village in Marbella, called Benahavis.

"Part of Princess Diana's family owns the villa and she stayed many times - there were a lot of pictures of her in the house.

"It's an amazing house and the family also own half of a mountain and they've got a heliport, too.

"They also have a lot of natural, beautiful areas leading up to the house. The actors felt at home because we spent nearly four weeks there."
