Watermelons scattered on road after lorry overturns near Doddaballapur

Doddaballapur: A lorry overturned after the driver lost control near Kodigehalli in the taluk on Wednesday, causing watermelons loaded in the vehicle to scatter across the road. Local residents rushed to the spot and collected the fruits.

The lorry was transporting watermelons from Tamil Nadu to Haveri. The vehicle reportedly took the Kodigehalli service road and while attempting to rejoin the national highway, the driver lost control near Mestru Mane Cross on the service road, leading to the accident.

The driver, Vedamurthy (22) from Davanagere, sustained serious injuries to his hands and legs in the incident and was admitted to a private hospital in the city.

Meanwhile, people gathered at the spot and hurried to pick up the watermelons that had fallen from the vehicle. Many were seen filling the fruits into bags and carrying them away on two-wheelers, autos and other vehicles.

The incident has been reported under the jurisdiction of the Doddaballapur Rural Police Station.
