Priya Sachdev Kapur, widow of the late businessman Sanjay Kapur, has recently become the focus of intense media scrutiny. The spotlight intensified amid a high-profile legal and family dispute involving Karisma Kapoor’s children, who are reportedly contesting their father’s vast estate, valued at an estimated Rs 30,000 crore. The controversy stems from claims surrounding a will allegedly executed in March 2025, which reportedly bequeaths the majority of Sanjay Kapur’s assets to Priya, prompting challenges from Samaira and Kiaan, Sanjay’s children with Karisma Kapoor.

Sunjay Kapur's mother and sister challenge will, are they on Karisma Kapoor’s side?

Sunjay Kapur’s mother, Rani Kapur, has questioned the validity of her late son’s alleged will. During a hearing at the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, her lawyer stated that the 80-year-old had not been informed about any documents related to the will. The advocate added, “There is something incredibly unholy. Rs 10,000 crore worth of assets should have been mine,” claiming that Rani Kapur had sent 15 emails regarding the will but received no response. The court was hearing the plea filed by Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira Kapur and Kiaan Raj Kapur, against their father’s second wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, who has been accused by the siblings of “forging and fabricating” the will.

Here’s what Sunjay Kapur’s sister said

Mandhira Kapur Smith, the sister of the late businessman Sunjay Kapur, has voiced her support for Karisma Kapoor’s children in the ongoing dispute over his estate. Speaking to ANI, Mandhira said she was glad the case could bring clarity and transparency to the family matter. She emphasised her backing for the children, stating that given their close relationship with their father, it was unreasonable for them to be excluded from the will. “I stand by them because it doesn’t make sense for them to be left out of the will when their bond with their father is so well known,” she added. Mandhira Kapur Smith stated that the wealth was intended to be shared equally among the family members, but “one person, Priya Sachdev Kapur, has come in and taken everything.” She also added that her mother “doesn’t even have a roof over her head.”

Priya Kapur’s take on the case

While issuing notice on the application for interim relief, Justice Jyoti Singh directed, “Let the plaintiff be registered as a suit. Summons. Written statements within two weeks. In Order 39 Rule 1, notice. Replies within three weeks. Rejoinder a week thereafter. Defendant 1 will file a list of all assets (of the deceased), immovable or movable, known to said defendant as on June 12, 2025. List after three weeks for consideration of ad-interim injunction at 2:30 PM.”

In her defense, Priya Sachdev Kapur stated that the children were “not left on the road” and had already received assets through the RK Family Trust, totaling Rs 1,900 crore. Senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, representing Priya, highlighted this point, saying, “So much crying, six days before the Will, the plaintiffs received Rs 1,900 crore worth of assets under the Trust. I don’t know how much is enough.”

During the hearing, Priya’s lawyers also criticized Karisma Kapoor, questioning her absence over the past 15 years. The lawyer added, “Please have sympathy for a man who died while playing polo. Your husband and you left each other years ago… You were nowhere to be seen for the last 15 years.”
