Australia: Three killed, one injured in suspected shooting incident in New South Wales town; accused at large
PTC Web Desk: At least three persons have lost their lives following a reported shooting in the small town of Lake Cargelligo in New South Wales, Australian police confirmed on Thursday. Another individual has been rushed to hospital and is said to be in a serious but stable condition.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident around 4:40 pm local time after receiving reports of gunfire near the intersection of Walker Street and Yelkin Street. On arrival, officers found multiple victims at the scene.
The police confirmed that two women and one man were pronounced dead. Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors and avoid the surrounding area as the suspected gunman has not yet been apprehended.
According to local media reports, the incident is being treated as a suspected case of domestic violence. Heavily armed tactical police units have been deployed as part of an ongoing search operation to locate the suspect.
Other reports claim that the alleged shooter fled the scene in a vehicle belonging to the local council. Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
Lake Cargelligo, a remote town in central New South Wales, has a population of roughly 1,500 residents. The incident has sent shockwaves through the close-knit community and comes just weeks after a deadly mass shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach that claimed multiple lives.
The police say further updates will be shared as the investigation progresses.
