A festive gathering at one of Australia’s most iconic beaches turned into a scene of horror after a mass shooting left multiple people dead and injured in Sydney on Sunday. The attack unfolded during a public event near Bondi Beach, drawing a swift and large-scale response from police and emergency services. As investigations continue, authorities remain cautious about confirming motives, while political leaders and community representatives have expressed grief, anger and concern over public safety.
What Happened At Bondi Beach
The shooting occurred at a grassy area just north of Bondi Beach, where hundreds of people had gathered for Chanukah by the Sea, an event marking the start of the Jewish festival. Gunmen opened fire on the crowd, triggering panic as people ran for cover in one of the country’s most visited public spaces. Police later confirmed that ten people had died, including nine civilians and one person believed to be among the attackers.Casualties And Police Response
Eleven people were injured in the incident, among them two police officers who were responding to the unfolding violence. Emergency services rushed to the area, securing the scene and transporting the wounded to hospital. A wide exclusion zone was established as specialist teams examined several suspicious items found nearby.
