Donald Trump Slams 2020 Election as 'Biggest Scandal', Calls for DOJ Probe and End to Mail-In Voting

US President Donald Trump on Sunday (local time) once again stirred controversy by calling the alleged rigging of the 2020 presidential election the "biggest scandal in American history" and demanded that the Department of Justice (DOJ) investigate the matter.

The 79-year-old leader called for an end to mail-in and early voting and urged that voter IDs be made mandatory to prevent election fraud. He also targeted California’s Proposition 50, a single ballot initiative that voters in the state will decide on this election season.

"The 2020 Presidential Election, being Rigged and Stolen, is a far bigger SCANDAL. Look what happened to our Country when a Crooked Moron became our 'President!' We now know everything. I hope the DOJ pursues this with as much 'gusto' as befitting the biggest SCANDAL in American history! If not, it will happen again, including the upcoming Midterms," Trump wrote on Truth Social, likening it to the NBA gambling scandal.

In another post, he wrote, "No mail-in or 'Early' Voting, Yes to Voter ID! Watch how totally dishonest the California Prop Vote is! Millions of Ballots being 'shipped.' GET SMART REPUBLICANS, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!!"

Proposition 50 aims to allow Democrats to replace maps drawn by an independent commission with new congressional district maps, potentially flipping up to five GOP-held US House seats. Democrats argue the move is needed to counter Republican-led gerrymandering in states like Texas.

Former President Barack Obama has backed the initiative, with voting scheduled for November 4 and early voting already underway. The DOJ announced it will deploy election monitors in several California counties to "ensure transparency, ballot security, and compliance with federal law."

Trump, who previously served as the 45th US President, lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden before returning to office in 2024. Over the years, he has repeatedly claimed that the 2020 election was rigged, even suggesting he has effectively served a continuous third term since he "actually won" that election.
