Commentary
Onto the moving day then. Day 3 is often called as the 'moving day' in Tests and both sides would be eager to make an impression. After India dominating the first day, England have dominated more than two-thirds of Day 2, making it fairly even going into Sunday. The hosts would look towards Ollie Pope to do a Shubman Gill, that is bat deep while the visitors would look for more support for Bumrah and do to England, what England did to India - orchestrate a collapse. Plenty of time left in this Test but still, the first hour of the first session could be very crucial. Play is scheduled to start at 3.30 pm IST (1000 GMT) on Sunday, 22nd June, 2025, but our buildup will begin well in advance. So do join us early. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
It still has been a very good day for the hosts. They were looking down and out on Day 1 and till 90 minutes on Day 2, were looking at a really mountainous task. However, they gathered themselves to have India collapse from 430/3 and despite losing Zak Crawley in the very first over, have made a really good fist of India's score. Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope's century stand followed by another big partnership between Pope and Root has shown what a good pitch this still is. The deficit is still 262 but if the pitch continues to stay as good as this and India do not pick up wickets regularly, that deficit could skittle down pretty quickly.
Irrespective of the fielding blemishes, the bowling has been a worry for India on Day 2. Jasprit Bumrah has been a tireless machine, creating opportunities almost every time in his 13 overs, picking up all the 3 wickets to fall. But he barely got support at the other end, with Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna struggling big time. Siraj did get some rhythm going in that third session and the tourists will hope that he continues that rhythm as this match goes forward. Because of that lack of support for Bumrah, England could score merrily at around 5 an over in the second session, before Siraj's spell in the third session made them get a bit watchful. Still, once Siraj got off, they started to attack Krishna and Shardul and had it not been for the late wicket of Root, it would have been a terrific day for the home side.
Before this series began, we talked about India's inexperience with the bat. We talked about India's excessive dependency on Jasprit Bumrah. But little did we talk about India's fielding. If not for the visitors' fielding, this innings could have taken a totally different turn. India dropped three catches, all off Bumrah and the last-over no ball reprieve was by Boom Boom himself. It is a tribute to the legend that he is single-handedly fighting hard for his side, keeping India in the hunt. Ben Duckett was dropped on 11 by Yashasvi Jaiswal. England were 31/1 at that stage. 2 balls later, Duckett's run out was missed on 15, as Rishabh Pant threw it at the wrong end. England were 35/1. Few balls later, Duckett was dropped again, this time a fairly simpler chance, on 15, by Ravindra Jadeja. England were 39/1. Then it took a while for the next chance, with Ollie Pope giving a catch to Yashasvi Jaiswal on 60. England had just lost Duckett and were 129/2. And then, in the last over of the day. That's just too many chances and unfortunately for India, Bumrah was at the thick of them.
What a final session to behold. 102/2 in 25 overs. A session which can be called 70-30 in England's favour simply because of the late wicket of Root. The visitors could have had more but for that late reprieve of Harry Brook. Not sure which side will be the happier camp at the moment, because England could easily have been 5 or 6 down by now.

Jasprit Bumrah to Harry Brook, A snorter to end the day! Another short ball, right at the body, Brook has nowhere to go and leaps to try and keep his gloves and bat away from the ball. Just about survives as the ball shoots through to Rishabh Pant. STUMPS ON DAY 2, ENGLAND ARE 209/3, TRAILING INDIA BY 262!

Jasprit Bumrah to Harry Brook, OUT! CAUGHT! Hang on, it is another NO BALL! Third in the over! For a start, that is a shocker of a shot from Harry Brook. Not entirely similar to the way he got out to Mitchell Starc at Lord's in the 2023 Ashes, but that was also a short ball and the response from Brook was very poor at that time too. A short ball, outside off, could have been left alone but Brook decides to take this on and goes for the pull. He miscues it completely and Mohammed Siraj runs across from short mid-wicket and takes a good catch. India celebrate and are just about to go off the park for Stumps, but the third umpire informs umpire Chris Gaffaney that Bumrah has overstepped again! What a letoff for Brook.

Jasprit Bumrah to Harry Brook, No, no, Harry, where art thou going? Pope has been in this circuit much more than you have been and he is not running any quick single at this stage! On a length, outside off, Harry pushes it towards point and sets off for a single but is sent back. The third umpire informs the main umpire that Bumrah has overstepped. NO BALL.

Jasprit Bumrah to Harry Brook, On a good length, outside off, coming in with the angle, Harry Brook defends it towards point. This should be the last over of the day, so Pope will definitely not take any singles.
