You don't have to log onto a website or visit an EPFO office to see your PF information. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) provides simple ways to check your EPF balance by just making a missed call or sending a text message—at no charge.

Before using these services, there are a few things you need to take care of first.

To use the missed call or SMS features, make sure these requirements are met.
  • First, your Universal Account Number (UAN) must be activated.
  • Activation can be done through the EPFO unified portal.
  • Next, the mobile number you use must be registered and linked to your UAN.
  • The services will only work if you send the request from the mobile number that's connected to your UAN.
  • Also, you need to have at least one KYC document linked to your UAN.

This could be your bank account number, Aadhaar card, or PAN. If you don't have any of these linked, the service won't work.

Once you've taken care of these prerequisites, checking your EPF balance is easy.

Step 1: From your UAN-linked mobile number, give a missed call to 9966044425.
Step 2: The call will automatically disconnect after two rings, and you will not be charged anything.
Step 3: Shortly after, you will receive an SMS containing the details of your last EPF contribution and your current provident fund balance.

This service is completely free and is available 24×7.

The EPFO also offers a way to check your account details via SMS in just a few seconds.
Step 1: Open the SMS app on your phone.
Step 2: Type the message in this format: ‘EPFOHO UAN’
Step 3: Send this message to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number.

You'll get the response in English by default. But, the EPFO supports several Indian languages. To get the message in the language you prefer, just add the first three letters of that language’s name to the end of the message.

For example:

  • To receive the message in Telugu, type: ‘EPFOHO UAN TEL’
  • For Hindi, type: ‘EPFOHO UAN HIN’
  • For Tamil, type: ‘EPFOHO UAN TAM’

You can get your PF balance information in these languages: English (default), Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Bengali.

Both the missed call and SMS services from EPFO are helpful for those who want to stay updated with their provident fund account without needing internet access. These tools offer quick and hassle-free access to your PF balance and recent contributions, provided your UAN is active and properly linked with at least one KYC document and your mobile number.
