Hardik Pandya Withdraws From Cricket World Cup 2023 Due To Ankle Injury; India Reveals Replacement Player
Hardik Pandya, the Indian all-rounder, has been officially ruled out of the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023 by the International Cricket Council due to an ankle injury. The confirmation came from the ICC on Saturday following Hardik's ankle twist during India's match against Bangladesh at the MCA Stadium in Pune on October 19. Consequently, he was unable to participate in the subsequent matches against New Zealand, England, and Sri Lanka for Team India.
The ICC released a statement, stating, "India's unbeaten start to the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup has received a massive hit with news that star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has failed to recover from his ankle injury and will miss the remainder of the tournament."
The Event Technical Committee of the ICC has officially sanctioned the inclusion of pace bowler Prasidh Krishna in the squad as a replacement for Hardik Pandya.
"His place in India's squad will be taken by Prasidh Krishna, with the inexperienced fast bowler parachuted into the playing group after being approved by the tournament's Event Technical Committee on Saturday," ICC's statement further added.
The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 is composed of the following members: Wasim Khan, the ICC General Manager - Cricket and ETC Chair; Chris Tetley, the ICC Head of Events; Hemang Amin, the Acting CEO of the BCCI; Gaurav Saxena, the General Manager - Operations at BCCI; and the two Independent Representatives, Russel Arnold and Simon Doull.
Earlier this week, India secured a spot in the semi-finals of the Cricket World Cup with a dominant 302-run victory over Sri Lanka. Having set an imposing target of 357/8, the Indian team then swiftly dismissed Sri Lanka for a meager 55 runs.
With seven points in seven matches, India currently leads the points table. The upcoming match against second-placed South Africa is scheduled for Sunday.
