IndiaAI's First Report Aims To Lead The Way In Shaping The AI Ecosystem
After rigorous research, the first edition of the IndiaAI report was presented to the Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Electronics & IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar .
Formulated by the seven dedicated working groups of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the report is poised to be India’s seminal roadmap for enhancing its Artificial Intelligence (AI) ecosystem.
Reflecting on the meticulous efforts of the working groups, Minister Chandrasekhar remarked, “After months of dedicated research, the seven working groups that were constituted to build the core goals of the IndiaAI program, have submitted their formal report today. This comprehensive report lays out what will be the fulcrum of the IndiaAI strategy that was envisaged by PM Modi. He had talked about India for AI and AI for India. Through this roadmap IndiaAI will work to be a kinetic enabler of the 1 trillion dollar digital economy.”
The working groups have thoroughly outlined the methodologies for establishing Centers of Excellence (CoEs) and the underlying institutional structure that will supervise the intricate processes of data collection, management, processing, and storage. The pivotal role in this will be played by the National Data Management Office (NDMO).
Furthermore, the report elaborates on India's unique position to leverage its demographic advantage and its formidable reputation in the IT sector. It emphasizes the importance of deepening AI skills in the nation, bolstering India's AI compute infrastructure, and driving AI innovation through influential public-private partnerships.
To support domestic firms, especially startups and MSMEs, the report sheds light on the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme, which aims to extend financial incentives alongside design infrastructure aid.
The holistic approach of the IndiaAI programme addresses the current gaps in the AI ecosystem , particularly in the domains of compute infrastructure, data, AI financing, research and innovation, and focused skilling. The report underscores the mission of realizing "AI for all" in the country.
Envisaging a brighter future, Chandrasekhar noted that IndiaAI would galvanize not just the startup and entrepreneurial realm, but also several other sectors.“One crucial component will be that of India Datasets Platform, which will be one of the largest collections of anonymised datasets that will be used by Indian researchers to train their multi-parameter models. Then there will be the India AI Compute Platform, a public-private partnership project that will create substantial GPU (Graphics processing unit) capacity for our startups and researchers. In addition to skilling, India AI will also support the development of AI chips in partnership with the Semicon India program.”
With the Global India AI summit slated for 10th December 2023, all eyes are on the nation as it strides confidently into a future driven by AI.
