Alert: Petrol Pumps Will Deny Fuel To These Vehicles Starting July 1 — Find Out Why
Delhi is set to enforce a new rule starting July 1 that will prevent vehicles exceeding their age limits from refuelling at petrol pumps across the city. This measure forms part of a broader effort by the local authorities to curb pollution levels and improve air quality. The system will use advanced Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology installed at all fuel stations to identify and restrict refuelling for ageing vehicles. This move targets vehicles that have surpassed the permitted lifespan, particularly older diesel and petrol models known for contributing to air pollution.
Age Limits Defined for Petrol and Diesel Vehicles
The fuel ban specifically affects diesel vehicles older than ten years and petrol vehicles that have crossed fifteen years on the road. These regulations have their roots in rulings by the Supreme Court and earlier directives from environmental authorities, which seek to phase out older, more polluting vehicles from the capital’s roads. The ban also aims to enforce previous guidelines restricting the parking of such vehicles in public spaces, reflecting ongoing efforts to reduce harmful emissions in one of India’s most polluted cities.ANPR Technology Rollout Nears Completion
The Delhi government has made significant progress in installing ANPR cameras at fuel stations, which will play a crucial role in enforcing the new policy. Out of approximately 400 petrol stations and 160 CNG outlets across the city, only a small number remain to be equipped with this technology. Once fully operational, these cameras will automatically read the registration plates of vehicles entering the stations and assess their eligibility to purchase fuel based on their age.You may also like
