India-made Kawasaki W175 launched in USA: Price, changes

Newspoint
Japanese mobility manufacturer Kawasaki Motors has launched the made-in-India Kawasaki W175 LTD motorcycle in the United States of America. Manufactured in India, the retro-themed commuter bike is offered in the US at $2,999 (about Rs 2.87 lakh at current exchange rates). For reference, the W175 is priced from Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom) in the Indian market. Targeted at first-time buyers, students and urban commuters, the motorcycle is positioned as an entry-level offering. Its compact size, manageable performance and traditional design make it suitable for everyday city use, while retaining the practicality and efficiency expected of a commuter motorcycle.

The Kawasaki W175 LTD is offered in the US in Ebony and Candy Emerald Green colour options and targets riders looking for a straightforward, retro-styled motorcycle. It is underpinned by a semi-double cradle frame, paired with telescopic front forks and preload-adjustable twin rear shock absorbers.

Powering the motorcycle is a 177cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine that develops 13hp at 7,500rpm and 13Nm at 6,000rpm, coupled to a five-speed gearbox. Braking duties are handled by a 270mm front disc with a two-piston calliper and a rear drum brake. The W175 LTD also features an upright riding stance, aided by pullback handlebars, neutral-set footpegs and a flat single-piece seat.

Kawasaki has previously stated that the W175 was developed with substantial input from its Indian operations, with engineering work undertaken at India Kawasaki Motor’s R&D centre in Pune. The company has also said the W175 Street is manufactured in India using Japanese technology. Although the US-market launch announcement does not mention production details, Kawasaki’s earlier disclosures point to India playing a key role in the motorcycle’s development and manufacturing.
