Kia Sorento India launch on this date: Design, specs & more
Kia India is all set to launch the new Kia Sorento SUV in the Indian market on September 4, 2026. The Sorento will be introduced as Kia India’s flagship three-row ICE SUV and the brand’s first hybrid model for the Indian market. The Sorento will be assembled at Kia India’s manufacturing facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, and is expected to be priced from around Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom).
Bookings are already underway, interested customers can book the SUV online or by visiting their nearest dealership. It will take on rivals including the Volkswagen Tayron, MG Majestor, Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner and Jeep Meridian.
Design-wise, the new Kia Sorento adopts Kia’s latest design language with vertically stacked LED headlamps and tail-lamps, T-shaped amber daytime running lamps, a Tiger Nose grille, dual-tone alloy wheels, flared wheel arches and revised bumpers. The global-spec SUV measures 4,815mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,700mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,815mm. If the India-spec model retains these dimensions, it will be one of the larger SUVs in its segment.
Talking about the powertrain first, the India-spec Sorento is expected to be offered with hybrid and diesel powertrains. The hybrid version could use a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor, producing 238hp and 380Nm. A 2.2-litre diesel engine, shared with the Kia Carnival, is also expected, delivering 202hp and 441Nm. Both engines are likely to be paired to automatic transmissions. While overseas versions are available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, Kia has not confirmed whether the latter will be offered in India.
The SUV is expected to be available in six-seat and seven-seat configurations. It offers 179 litres of boot space with all three rows in place, expanding to 1,996 litres with the rear seats folded. The dashboard houses dual 12.3-inch displays, a four-spoke steering wheel with Kia’s offset logo, vertical air-conditioning vents, a touch-based centre control panel and a rotary drive selector.
Expected features include ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a powered driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, connected car technology, Bose audio system, ambient lighting, head-up display and an electronic parking brake. Level 2 ADAS is expected to be part of the safety package, along with adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and blind spot monitoring. Multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera, and front and rear parking sensors are also likely to be offered.
