Maruti Suzuki's electric SUV, the e-Vitara, is gaining popularity in international markets, marking an important milestone for India's electric vehicle industry. The company has confirmed that cumulative exports of the Made-in-India electric SUV have crossed 50,000 units. Manufactured at Maruti Suzuki's Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, the vehicle is now being exported to nearly 50 countries, with Europe emerging as its biggest overseas market.
Maruti Suzuki began exporting the e-Vitara in August 2025. According to the company, it accounted for approximately 93% of India's passenger electric vehicle exports between April and September 2026. This highlights the growing contribution of the Indian manufacturing sector to the global electric vehicle market.
How Did the e-Vitara Cross the 50,000 Export Milestone? The international journey of the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara began with shipments to European countries. In 2025, the company dispatched its first major consignment of more than 2,900 vehicles from Gujarat's Pipavav Port to 12 European markets.
Europe continues to be the biggest destination for the electric SUV. Maruti Suzuki also started exporting the e-Vitara to Japan in September 2025.
Japan is expected to become one of the company's most important export markets during the 2026-27 financial year. Apart from the e-Vitara, models such as the Fronx and Jimny 5-door have also gained a presence in the country. Combined exports of these three models to Japan have crossed 1 lakh units.
The e-Vitara is currently exported to nearly 50 countries, including the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, Japan and Switzerland.
Battery Options and Power: What Does the e-Vitara Offer? The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara is available with two battery pack options, designed to cater to different driving requirements.
-
49 kWh battery pack: Produces approximately 142 bhp.
-
61 kWh battery pack: Produces approximately 172 bhp.
The electric SUV was developed as an important global product for Suzuki and is also available in the Indian market.
The model holds special significance for the company as it is Suzuki's first global battery electric vehicle manufactured in India. Its international success also reflects the growing capabilities of India's electric vehicle manufacturing ecosystem.
Hansalpur Plant Increases Production CapacityMaruti Suzuki's Hansalpur manufacturing facility in Gujarat plays a major role in the production and export of the e-Vitara.
The plant initially had an annual production capacity of 7.5 lakh vehicles, which has now been expanded to 10 lakh vehicles. According to the company, this makes it Suzuki's first manufacturing facility anywhere in the world with the capacity to produce 10 lakh vehicles annually at a single location.
The company has invested approximately Rs 25,288.7 crore in the facility so far. During the financial year 2025-26, nearly half of Maruti Suzuki's total vehicle exports were supplied from this manufacturing hub.
The increased production capacity is expected to support the company's growing international requirements and strengthen India's position as a global automobile manufacturing destination.
Maruti Suzuki Continues to Lead India's Car ExportsMaruti Suzuki's international business extends beyond electric vehicles. According to the information shared by the company, it has remained India's largest passenger vehicle exporter for five consecutive financial years, from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
Between April and September 2026, the company accounted for more than 50% of India's total passenger vehicle exports.
Currently, Maruti Suzuki exports 16 vehicle models to approximately 120 countries. The e-Vitara is the newest addition to this international portfolio and its only fully electric model.
Crossing the 50,000-unit export milestone is an important achievement for the company. It also demonstrates how Indian manufacturing facilities are becoming increasingly important in the global transition towards electric mobility.
