Renault Duster hybrid: Powertrain

The Duster hybrid uses Renault’s E-Tech 160 powertrain, which combines a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with two electric motors. The petrol engine makes 110hp and 175Nm, while the 50hp traction motor generates 208Nm. Together, the system delivers 160hp.

The SUV features a 1.4kWh, 247V battery pack and a multi-mode automatic gearbox with four petrol and two electric gears. The system automatically switches between six driving configurations, including electric-only, petrol-only and hybrid modes.

Renault claims the Duster can complete up to 80 per cent of city driving using electric power alone. It also claims a 0-100 kph acceleration time of 9.61 seconds. The biggest highlight is its ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 29kmpl. Combined with a 50-litre fuel tank, Renault claims the SUV can travel more than 1,400km on a full tank.

Renault Duster hybrid: Design

The hybrid version retains the rugged styling of the petrol-powered Duster, including prominent body cladding, roof rails, C-pillar-mounted rear door handles and eyebrow-shaped LED daytime running lights. It also features an illuminated Duster badge on the front grille, while full-LED headlights are available from the Techno variant onwards.

The Evolution gets 18-inch flex wheels, whereas the top-spec Emotion features 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Other distinguishing elements include E-Tech Hybrid badges on the front doors and tailgate. The SUV offers 212mm of ground clearance.

Interior-wise, the Duster hybrid retains the dual-screen dashboard layout of the petrol model. The base Evolution comes equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and dual-zone automatic climate control.

The Techno adds a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, push-button start and connected car features through the MyRenault app. It also gets Desert Beige semi-leatherette upholstery. The top-spec Emotion comes with a larger 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, six-way electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats, a powered tailgate and Dune Brown leatherette upholstery.

Renault Duster hybrid safety features

Renault claims the entry-level Evolution variant comes with 38 safety features as standard. These include six airbags, hill-start assist, cruise control with a speed limiter, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

The Duster hybrid is based on Renault’s RGMP platform, which supports petrol, hybrid and CNG powertrains. The SUV also features frequency-dependent dampers, designed to improve ride comfort across different road conditions. The Duster already came with two turbos, and we are looking forward to it. It is economical and something which should have been there from the start.
