EPFO Profile Update: How To Change Your PF Details Online Step By Step
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has introduced a major update that makes life much easier for its millions of subscribers. A new digital feature now allows EPF account holders to correct and update several personal profile details online. Most impressively, many of these changes can be made without the hassle of uploading supporting documents.
Subscribers can now modify essential information such as their name, date of birth, residential address, and parents’ names. It also covers employment details like the date of joining or leaving a job, as well as personal status updates like marital status and nationality. This is a significant win for anyone who has struggled with clerical errors in their retirement accounts.
The latest guidelines specify two main scenarios where nationality can be updated without providing extra paperwork. The first is if the nationality field in your account is currently blank and you wish to set it to Indian. The second is if a subscriber wants to switch their status from Indian to International.
To qualify for this document free update, your Universal Account Number must have been activated before 1 October 2017 and must be verified with your Aadhaar. Additionally, a joint declaration approved by your employer is necessary to finalise the change.
Handling missing Aadhaar links or closed companies
If your UAN is not linked to Aadhaar or if you do not have a UAN at all, the process moves offline. In these cases, you will need to fill out a physical joint declaration form and hand it to your employer. They will then be responsible for uploading this onto the official portal and forwarding it for processing.
There is also a solution for those whose former companies have shut down permanently. If your previous employer is no longer in business, you can get your joint declaration verified by an authorised official. This includes individuals such as a gazetted officer, a notary public, a Member of Parliament, a postmaster, or even a village panchayat head. Once verified, this form should be submitted directly to the regional office.
Keeping your profile accurate and your UAN linked to Aadhaar is the best way to ensure that future claims and withdrawals go through without any delays.
