DA Hike for 4,000 Employees Ahead of Diwali
Mumbai, October 26: In a significant development, the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) has announced a hike in the minimum monthly salary for approximately 4,000 public health workers to ₹18,000, effective before Diwali. This decision also includes the provision of a Dearness Allowance (DA) for these employees. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made the announcement on Friday, stating that the government will allocate around ₹52 crore from the treasury for this initiative.
The increase in salary is based on the Level-1 pay matrix, ensuring that the principle of equal pay for equal work is upheld. These employees, initially hired as Domestic Breeding Checkers (DBC) to combat dengue, have been pivotal in public health efforts, including community health checks and awareness campaigns. Mayor Pravesh Wahi confirmed that the increased salaries have already been transferred directly to the employees' bank accounts. This move is seen as a recognition of the long-term contributions made by these workers to Delhi's public health services.Additionally, the MCD plans to recruit 2,500 sanitation workers ahead of the festive season to enhance cleanliness in the city, especially in busy markets and public areas. Chief Minister Gupta emphasized the need for improved sanitation efforts during the festive period, ensuring that cleanliness is maintained to prevent any issues related to waste accumulation.
