Flooded Road Forces Family To Carry Body On Floating Drums In MP's Rewa
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Family members transported a body to their home on floating drums after the access road was submerged in floodwaters in Rauli village under Jawa block in Rewa district. A video of the incident went viral, showing family members placing the body on floating drums.
The incident took place in Rauli Gram Panchayat, under the Jawa block of the Sirmour assembly constituency. Motilal Tiwari, a resident of the village, had died at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa.
When the family brought his body back to the village, they found the road leading to their home inundated by floodwaters.
The road was completely blocked due to the flooding, leaving the family grappling with the major challenge of how to transport the body home. Standard vehicles and usual routes were rendered useless amid the deluge.
Consequently, the villagers banded several drums together and placed the body atop these drums and slowly manoeuvred it through the floodwaters, eventually succeeding in bringing the body home.
The footage shows villagers transporting the body through the floodwaters using the makeshift drum raft.
This scene of a funeral procession amidst the floods is deeply unsettling and raises questions about the adequacy of disaster management systems in rural areas.
Villagers state that the flooding has already made commuting difficult in Rauli village, with roads submerged in several places.
