The move is aimed at making essential documents easier to access and manage. Members can retrieve these documents digitally from anywhere, without having to depend entirely on physical copies.

EPFO Announces New Digital Facility

EPFO shared the update through a post on X, stating that its services are going digital. The facility allows members to securely access their UAN card, PPO and Scheme Certificate through DigiLocker.

These documents are important for employees, retired individuals and pensioners. Making them available on a digital platform can help members keep their records accessible when required for official work or pension-related services.

They wrote, “EPFO services are now going digital.” Every EPFO member can now easily and securely access their UAN card, Pension Payment Order, and Scheme Certificate anytime, anywhere, in a smart way.”

What Is DigiLocker?

DigiLocker is a digital document storage and access platform launched in 2015 under the government's Digital India initiative. It allows users to access and manage digital versions of eligible documents issued by government departments and other authorised organisations.

Users can access supported documents through their DigiLocker accounts instead of carrying physical copies everywhere. Aadhaar-based authentication is commonly used during account setup, depending on the registration process.

With EPFO documents available on the platform, members have another convenient way to access important employment and pension records.

What Is a UAN Card?

The Universal Account Number, or UAN, is a 12-digit number allotted to EPFO members . It acts as a permanent identifier for an employee's provident fund accounts.

When an employee changes jobs, the UAN generally remains the same. It helps link the member's different PF Member IDs created by current and previous employers.

The UAN is useful for accessing EPFO services, checking provident fund details and submitting eligible online claims. Having the UAN card available through DigiLocker can make it easier for members to retrieve their identification details when needed.

What Is a Pension Payment Order?

A Pension Payment Order, commonly known as a PPO, is an official document issued to eligible pensioners under the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS). It contains a unique PPO number used to identify the pension account and process pension-related services.

Pensioners may need their PPO details for tasks such as dealing with their pension-disbursing bank, resolving pension-related issues and completing certain verification procedures.

Digital access to the PPO can help pensioners keep this important document readily available, particularly when they need to provide pension details for official purposes.

What Is an EPS Scheme Certificate ?

The EPS Scheme Certificate is an important document related to an EPFO member's pensionable service. It records relevant employment and service details that may be required when determining pension eligibility.

The certificate can be particularly useful when an employee leaves a job before becoming eligible for a pension and needs to preserve eligible pensionable service for future consideration. Depending on the member's circumstances, it may also contain relevant details concerning family members and pension entitlements.

Keeping the certificate accessible can help members manage their pension records and retrieve the document when required.

How the DigiLocker Facility Can Help EPFO Members

The availability of these documents on DigiLocker offers members a convenient digital option for accessing important PF and pension records. It can reduce dependence on physical copies and make document retrieval easier when dealing with employment, retirement or pension-related requirements.

Members should ensure that their DigiLocker accounts are accessible and check the platform for the relevant EPFO documents. They should also keep their account credentials secure and retain any physical records that may still be required for specific official procedures.

The new facility is another step towards simplifying access to essential EPFO documents through digital services.
