What is the latest Jio IPO development?

Jio Platforms' Rs 8,110-crore anchor book has received bids worth approximately Rs 2.5 lakh crore, which translates into demand of more than 30 times the shares available for allocation.

The list of investors seeking an allocation includes international asset management firms, sovereign wealth funds, Indian mutual funds, insurance companies and pension funds. Some major foreign investors and domestic institutions have submitted bids worth $750 million to over $1 billion each, according to a PTI report.

The Rs 8,110-crore anchor book is the portion of an IPO reserved for institutional investors before the issue opens for public subscription.

Among the international asset managers participating were BlackRock, Capital Group, Fidelity Investments, T. Rowe Price, Schroders, JPMorgan Asset Management, Franklin Templeton, Invesco and Janus Henderson. The sovereign wealth funds and public investment institutions included Singapore's GIC, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, the Qatar Investment Authority and Norway's Norges Bank Investment Management.

Several Indian mutual fund houses were also part of the book. These included SBI Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, HDFC Mutual Fund, Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund, Nippon India Mutual Fund and Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company.

The insurance and pension segment included Life Insurance Corporation of India, HDFC Life Insurance, SBI Life Insurance, SBI Pension Funds, HDFC Pension and ICICI Prudential.

What does Jio’s IPO filing show?

Jio’s filing provides for a fresh issue of Rs 30,213 crore, with no offer-for-sale component. This means the shares offered under the IPO will be newly issued by Jio Platforms rather than shares being sold through the issue by Reliance Industries or Jio’s other existing investors. At the upper end of the price band of Rs 1,119, the minimum application amount for a retail investor works out to Rs 13,428 for one lot of 12 shares.

The issue follows a book-built structure. The price band of Rs 1,065 to Rs 1,119 was determined in consultation with the book-running lead managers and disclosed in the RHP filed on October 14, 2026.

Reservation percentages for QIBs, NIIs, and retail investors are clearly stated in the prospectus. Once subscription closes October 23, applicants can check results on the IPO allotment status page on Kotak Neo.

What are the key dates?

Subscription opens October 21 and closes October 23, 2026. October 26 is the allotment date. Share credits and refunds go out October 27. The shares will be listed on BSE and NSE on October 28, 2026.

Who can apply and what are the reservations?

Under SEBI norms, QIBs get up to 50% of the net offer. Retail investors receive at least 35%, and NIIs at least 15%.

Two additional reservation categories are part of this issue. Up to Rs 2,500 crore is set aside for eligible Reliance Industries shareholders, with a record date of October 14, 2026, for bids up to Rs 2 lakh. Up to Rs 500 crore is reserved for Jio employees, with a discount of Rs 54 per share and bids up to Rs 5 lakh.

What is the Grey Market Premium showing?

Grey market data from October 19, 2026 put the GMP at roughly Rs 251 per share. Compared with the upper end of the official price band of Rs 1,119, that implies an indicative price of Rs 1,370 and a premium of approximately 22.4%.

The premium had moved up from around Rs 148 in the first week of October. Grey market figures are informal and can shift sharply, so they are not a reliable guide to actual listing performance.

How will Jio use the IPO proceeds?

Jio Platforms has outlined two uses for the net proceeds in its prospectus. Up to Rs 27,500 crore is earmarked for the full or partial prepayment of certain outstanding borrowings of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL), which the filing identifies as a material subsidiary. The remaining proceeds may be used for general corporate purposes, subject to a cap of 25% of gross proceeds. Jio Platforms says the proposed debt repayment is expected to reduce net debt and borrowing-related servicing costs, while improving its net leverage and financial position.

Who owned Jio Platforms before the IPO?

As per the RHP, Jio Platforms’ promoter is Reliance Industries. It holds 5,937,841,645 shares, which are 66.43% of the pre-issue paid-up equity capital. Jaadhu Holdings, an affiliate of Meta Platforms, holds 892,275,913 shares or 9.98%, while Google International LLC owns 690,854,775 shares or 7.73%.

Other major shareholders disclosed in the filing include Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund with 2.31% and entities connected with other global institutional investors. Since the Jio IPO contains no OFS, these existing shareholders are not selling shares as part of the public issue, although their percentage ownership may decline following the issuance of new shares.

Where will Jio shares be listed?

Jio Platforms proposes to list its equity shares on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), with listing scheduled for October 28, 2026.

Subscription figures across the three investor categories from October 21 to 23 will give a clearer picture of overall demand. For anyone planning to apply, having a clear process in place before the subscription window opens is more useful than tracking grey market figures. The listing on October 28 will be the final marker, though listing day performance and the long-term investment case are two separate things worth keeping distinct.
