Last week, the Nifty 50 index rose by 2.77%, while the Sensex gained 3.11%. This surge was bolstered by renewed buying in information technology (IT) stocks, a decrease in global bond yield pressures, and continued purchases by domestic institutional investors (DII). On Friday, both major indices recorded gains for the second consecutive trading session, reinforcing hopes for market recovery following recent corrections. The Sensex closed up 413.66 points, or 0.56%, at 74,729.27, while the Nifty 50 increased by 148.80 points, or 0.65%, finishing at 23,146.15.
Over the week, the Sensex gained 2,256.94 points, and the Nifty added 625.7 points. Market participants are now closely watching the September quarter results. Investors will be keen to see if the recent rally is confined to IT stocks or if it spreads across other sectors. Special attention will be paid to the results and management commentary from banking, consumer, and industrial companies to evaluate revenue growth, margin improvement, and demand conditions.
Guidance issued by companies for upcoming quarters will also play a crucial role in shaping investor sentiment. Strong results and positive business signals could support the market, while weak performances or cautious stances might limit further gains. The stance of foreign institutional investors (FIIs) will be critical in determining market direction. Although there has been a slight decrease in selling by foreign investors, continued selling could exert pressure on the market.
Conversely, ongoing purchases by domestic institutional investors may provide necessary support. Investors will also focus on global bond yields and monetary policy expectations. A resurgence in bond yields may increase pressure on equity market valuations, making fixed-income investments more attractive. Conversely, a decline in yields could enhance risk appetite and encourage equity investments. Additionally, crude oil prices and geopolitical developments will be significant next week.
Rising international oil prices could inflate India's import bill, pressure inflation, and impact corporate margins. Any escalation in geopolitical tensions could also heighten volatility in global financial markets.
