LPG Subsidy Rule From October 1: Complete Aadhaar Verification to Avoid Paying Full Cylinder Price
LPG consumers receiving subsidised domestic cooking gas have an important deadline approaching. According to the reported guidelines of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) will become mandatory from October 1, 2026, for consumers seeking LPG refills at the applicable subsidised or controlled retail price.
Consumers who have not yet completed the required biometric verification have been advised to finish the process before the new requirement takes effect. Failing to do so is not expected to result in the immediate cancellation of an LPG connection. However, the subsidy benefit linked to an unverified connection may be withheld, potentially requiring the consumer to pay the full non-subsidised or market price for a refill.
Those who have already completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication do not need to repeat the process.
What Is Expected to Change From October 1?Under the reported rules taking effect from October 1, consumers who are eligible for an LPG subsidy will need to have their Aadhaar-linked biometric authentication completed to continue booking refills at the applicable subsidised price.
For customers whose BAA process has already been successfully completed, LPG bookings and applicable subsidy benefits are expected to continue as usual.
The available figures cited in the report indicate that around 89.9% of consumers have already completed the authentication process. This represents approximately 27.43 crore LPG consumers.

1. Complete verification when your cylinder is delivered
Consumers may be able to complete biometric verification when the LPG delivery person arrives with a cylinder. The authentication can be carried out using the authorised mobile application or verification facility available to the delivery representative.
This option can be particularly convenient for customers who do not want to make a separate visit to their LPG distributor.
2. Visit your LPG distributor
Customers can also visit the showroom or office of their authorised LPG distributor and request completion of the Biometric Aadhaar Authentication process.
Consumers should use their registered LPG distributor and follow the documentation or verification instructions provided by the authorised agency.
3. Use the official mobile application
Depending on the LPG provider and supported authentication facility, consumers may also be able to complete or initiate the required process through official digital channels.

Consumers should rely only on official channels and avoid sharing OTPs, banking passwords or other sensitive financial information with unknown callers or links.
Will Your LPG Connection Be Cancelled Without Authentication?One of the biggest concerns for consumers is whether failing to complete Aadhaar authentication by October 1 will result in their gas connection being disconnected.

What LPG Consumers Should Do NowConsumers receiving an LPG subsidy should first check whether Biometric Aadhaar Authentication has already been completed for their connection. Those who have successfully completed it reportedly do not need to authenticate themselves again.
Customers whose verification is still pending should consider completing it through their authorised LPG distributor, an approved delivery-based facility or the official app of their oil marketing company before October 1, 2026.
Consumers should also be cautious about fraud surrounding LPG e-KYC and Aadhaar verification. Use only official apps, authorised distributors and verified communication channels. Never disclose banking passwords, UPI PINs or other confidential financial credentials to anyone claiming they can activate an LPG subsidy.
