LPG Subsidy Update: Aadhaar Biometric Authentication Mandatory From October 1

LPG Gas Subsidy Aadhaar Linking Rules: Domestic LPG consumers who want to receive subsidised refills at the regulated retail selling price will need to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) from October 1, 2026. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has said that customers who have already completed the authentication do not need to repeat the process.

The authentication can be completed through an oil marketing company’s mobile app, at the LPG distributor’s showroom or during cylinder delivery. Customers can therefore complete the process without necessarily making a separate visit to the gas agency.

What Happens If Biometric Authentication Is Not Completed?

From October 1, customers who have not completed BAA will not be able to book refills at the regulated retail selling price with the applicable subsidy until authentication is completed. The government has stated that consumers who complete the authentication can resume subsidised refill booking.

Customers who do not wish to complete BAA can still receive LPG, but they must register this choice through the available digital channels of their oil marketing company. Such consumers will receive LPG at the applicable market price without subsidy, subject to availability and the applicable cylinder options.

How to Complete LPG Aadhaar Authentication From Home

Consumers can complete biometric authentication themselves through the official mobile application of their LPG company. The government lists IndianOil ONE

for Indane customers, HelloBPCL for Bharatgas customers and HP PAY for HP Gas customers.

The process can be completed through the relevant app using the authentication facility provided there. Consumers can also visit their distributor’s showroom if they prefer to complete the process in person.

Those who receive a cylinder delivery can ask the delivery person to complete the biometric authentication at their doorstep using the OMC mobile application. This provides another option for customers who are unable to complete the process themselves.

27.43 Crore LPG Consumers Have Already Completed Authentication

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers had completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication as of September 19, 2026

. This represents 89.9% of active domestic LPG consumers, so those customers do not need to take any further action.

The government had earlier set several deadlines for completing the authentication and extended the final deadline to September 14, 2026. Consumers who are yet to complete the process are being advised to finish it before October 1 through the available authentication channels.
