Mukesh Ambani gets teary-eyed as Anant, Akash, Isha talk about Reliance's journey at Jio listing
Jio share listing: Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani got emotional at Jio Platforms Limited’s listing ceremony as he watched his children speak about the family’s legacy and Jio’s journey. Sitting beside his wife, Nita Ambani, the 69-year-old chairman listened as Isha, Akash and Anant Ambani addressed the gathering ahead of the NSE bell-ringing ceremony.

The occasion was particularly significant for Reliance, marking its first listing in two decades with the stock market debut of Jio Platforms Limited. The ceremony brought together the company’s history, the contribution of its founders and the responsibility its next generation now carries.
Jio Platforms made a strong debut on Dalal Street, listing at Rs 1,359 on the BSE and NSE, a premium of 21.36% over its IPO issue price of Rs 1,119 per share. The Rs 30,213-crore public issue was subscribed 22.19 times, making it India's largest IPO to date and valuing the Reliance Industries-backed digital services business at over Rs 10 lakh crore.
Isha Ambani recalls father's early days at Reliance
Isha Ambani, executive director of Reliance Retail Ventures, took the gathering back to the company's beginnings, recalling a recent family dinner during which her father spoke about Reliance's first public offering in 1977. Mukesh Ambani was 20 at the time, while his father, Dhirubhai Ambani, had decided to take the company to the public.
"A few evenings ago, at our dinner table, my father, Shri Mukesh Ambani, was remembering his days in 1977. He was 20 years old, working on Reliance's first public offering. My grandfather, Shri Dhirubhai Ambani, had decided to take Reliance to the people," she said.
Isha also recalled the maxim associated with her grandfather, 'Growth is life', and vowed to continue building the business and creating value for shareholders. She said Akash had worked hard for 13 years to build and grow Jio into India's largest telecom company, with over 53 crore subscribers.
Isha planted Jio's idea
Anant Ambani, executive director of Reliance Industries, said that Jio began as an idea seeded by Isha and was subsequently adopted and nurtured by her twin brother, Akash.
The ceremony also reflected the scale of investor interest in the company. Akash said the IPO received demand worth Rs 7.5 lakh crore through 1.3 crore applications, with the issue fully subscribed within 95 minutes of its launch. He described the response as deeply humbling and said it had left him with a profound sense of responsibility.
The entire Ambani family, including the next generation, rang the bell as the clock struck 10 am. By 11.01 am, Jio Platforms shares were trading 21.42% higher at Rs 1,358.7 on the BSE, against a 0.89% decline in the benchmark index.
Akash Ambani calls listing a ‘start line’
Jio Platforms managing director Akash Ambani said the listing was not a finish line but a start line. He promised to take the company to greater heights and grow investor wealth, as Reliance Industries has done over nearly 50 years.
"We promise to take Jio to greater heights of growth, excellence and reputation in India and the world," the 35-year-old said at the NSE ceremony, attended by his parents, siblings and grandmother Kokilaben.
Akash said the next generation's responsibility was not simply to preserve what it had inherited, but to make Jio bigger, better and more meaningful for India.
He said Jio had democratised data in its first decade and would now focus on making more technologies accessible.
"In our next ten (years), we want to democratise every technology that can transform Indian lives: AI, cloud, connected devices, connectivity even from space and digital services not yet imagined," he said.
Akash described the company's ambition as building a digital society where connectivity, computing and intelligence work together seamlessly. He said India was emerging as a creator of technology rather than merely a consumer. "We are now ready to take the tricolour global", he added.
