Rat Shocker! 78-Year-Old's Nose Bitten While Sleeping On Superfast Train

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): What a shame! When Indian Railways is gearing up for world-class services at railway stations and on running trains, the incident of a rat biting the nose of a senior citizen passenger on a city-bound Superfast train exposes the current state of affairs.

Interestingly, before the incident, the victim's accompanying son informed the on-board railway staff about the rat's movements.

However, the railway has clarified that it conducts rat control and the rodent might have entered the train at any railway station. Upon arrival at the city railway station, his family took him to Kokilaben Hospital, where doctors administered the first rabies injection.

The incident occurred on train No. 19308, Una (Himachal Pradesh)-Indore, on Saturday night. The victim was a 78-year-old retired officer, HK Karan, travelling in the First AC coach of the train.

According to the family, a rat was spotted in the coach shortly after the journey began.

They informed the railway staff and complained about the lack of cleanliness in the coach. Although the staff cleaned the area, no pest control measures were taken.

Karan had boarded the train from Chandigarh with his family on Saturday. His son, Vijay, stated that a rat was seen in the coach soon after they boarded and a complaint was lodged with the railway staff.

The family reported that Karan was asleep in his seat around 10.30 pm when the rat bit his nose. They informed the railway staff immediately after the incident.

Upon reaching the city, the family took him directly to Kokilaben Hospital. Doctors provided first aid and administered the first rabies prevention injection, followed by medical monitoring.

The rat bite incident occurred while the train was passing through the Agra Railway Division's jurisdiction. The passenger received first aid following the incident.

The scheduled anti-rodent (rat control) procedure had been carried out before the train departed from the city for Una. It is possible that the rat entered the coach at some point during the journey when a door was left open.

Same incidents at city airport & MYH

Earlier, a passenger was bitten by a rat within the terminal premises of the city airport. Neeraj, a resident of Bhopal, had arrived at the airport to catch a flight to Bengaluru when a rat bit him inside the terminal.

A year ago, two newborns admitted to the NICU of the State’s largest government facility, MY Hospital (MYH), died after being gnawed by rats. The victims included a baby boy and a baby girl; rats had gnawed at their hands and feet.
