SBI FD Interest Rates: Senior Citizens Can Get Up To 7.05%, Check Latest Rates
Fixed Deposits remain a preferred choice for investors looking for relatively predictable returns over a chosen tenure. The interest earned, however, depends on the deposit period and the category under which the customer falls.
SBI FD interest rates are higher for senior citizens than for regular customers on the tenures mentioned here. Super senior citizens, generally those aged 80 and above, receive an additional benefit on eligible deposits.
For anyone planning to open an SBI fixed deposit , comparing rates across tenures can help in deciding where to park the money.
What does a 6-month FD offer?
For a six-month Fixed Deposit, customers below the age of 60 receive an annual interest rate of 5.65%. The rate for senior citizens aged 60 and above is 6.15% per annum. This gives senior citizens an additional 0.50 percentage points over the rate available to regular customers for the same tenure. Super senior citizens aged 80 and above can earn 6.25% on a six-month FD.
The difference may appear modest for a short-term deposit, but the applicable SBI FD interest rate directly affects the final amount received at maturity.
Two-year deposits offer higher rates
The interest rates rise for customers choosing a longer tenure of two years. Regular customers can earn 6.40% per annum on a two-year FD.For senior citizens, the interest rate is 6.96%. Super senior citizens receive 7.05%, the highest rate among the customer categories mentioned for this tenure.
A longer fixed deposit period can therefore offer a better rate than a six-month FD, although investors should consider whether they are comfortable keeping their funds locked in for the chosen duration.

Senior and super senior citizens get an advantage
The higher rates available to older customers are a key feature of many bank deposit schemes. Under the rates mentioned, senior citizens receive more than regular customers on both the six-month and two-year tenures. For those aged 80 and above, the super senior citizen FD category provides a further increase. On a two-year deposit, the gap between the regular customer rate of 6.40% and the super senior citizen rate of 7.05% is particularly notable.
The actual interest earned will depend on the deposit amount, tenure and applicable terms at the time of booking.
These rates apply to deposits below Rs 3 crore
The interest rates discussed here apply to Fixed Deposits with a principal amount of less than Rs 3 crore. Deposits of larger amounts may be subject to a different interest rate structure.Investors should also keep in mind that banks can revise their FD rates from time to time. The rate available on the day the deposit is opened is therefore important.
SBI last revised the FD interest rates referred to here in December 2025. The rates have remained unchanged since that revision, based on the information provided.
Check the latest terms before locking in your money
Before opening a senior citizen FD or any other deposit, customers should check the latest applicable rates and conditions. Interest rates can change, and the most suitable tenure may vary depending on an individual's financial needs.A six-month deposit may suit someone looking for a shorter commitment, while a two-year FD could offer a higher interest rate. Comparing the tenure, expected FD returns and access to funds can help investors make a more informed decision.
