Tricks to get free upgrades in aeroplanes, hotels

It is no less than an achievement for many of us to get an upgrade from an economy to a business class seat in an aeroplane or from an ordinary room to a royal suite in a luxury hotel.

For us, it can be happiness galore worth thousands of rupees, making us believe that the hotel or the airline has done a favour for us.

Data analyst Suraj Kumar Talreja, however, thinks otherwise. In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), he writes that an upgrade that may seem to bear no cost to a customer is a smart tactic for an airline or a hotel that helps them earn more than they spend on the upgrade.
