NEW DELHI: Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Manasvi Vashistha has received his suspension letter, police sources confirmed on Tuesday, a day after hundreds of Delhi Police personnel gathered outside the force’s headquarters to protest the transfer of two officers following a clash between police and lawyers at Shahdara police station .

The protest on Monday was held against the transfer of Vashistha and Shahdara station house officer Inspector Arun Kumar.

The personnel demanded that the two officers be reinstated to their previous postings and raised concerns over the security of police personnel at police stations and court complexes.

The protest followed an October 23 incident at Shahdara police station, where advocate Lalit Bansal allegedly sustained a serious head injury during a scuffle.

The incident triggered an indefinite strike by lawyers at district courts, who demanded action against the police officers concerned.

Vashistha, who was posted as the sub-divisional police officer in Gandhi Nagar, was transferred to the Special Police Unit for Women and Children on October 28.

Kumar was moved from Shahdara police station to the security unit. The lawyers called off their strike after the transfers.

During Monday’s protest, police personnel also sought a meeting with police commissioner Anurag Kumar and submitted a set of demands.

The commissioner later held a Sampark Sabha with personnel and assured them that their concerns would be addressed.
