After cyclone Arnab, Andhra Pradesh faces fresh storm threat; heavy rain forecast on November 2 and 3
VISAKHAPATNAM: Even as people in Andhra Pradesh’s coastal districts are yet to recover from the damage caused by very severe cyclonic storm Arnab, the state is bracing for another cyclonic storm. A well-marked low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Andaman Sea is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm on Sunday (November 1). It is expected to move west-northwestwards and reach the west-central Bay of Bengal, near the Andhra Pradesh coast, by Monday evening (November 2). The system may trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds, in coastal and Rayalaseema districts.

The IMD said the low-pressure area over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining north Andaman Sea and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands moved west-northwestwards and lay as a well-marked low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas on Saturday (October 31).
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over the same region by Saturday evening. Thereafter, it is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm by Sunday (November 1), move west-northwestwards and reach the west-central Bay of Bengal, near the Andhra Pradesh coast, by Monday evening (November 2).
The weather agency has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema. Strong winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph, gusting to 50 kmph, are also likely at isolated places in these regions on Sunday (November 1).
Krishna, Guntur, NTR, Palnadu and Bapatla districts in Coastal Andhra Pradesh may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on November 2 and 3. Eluru, West Godavari, Prakasam, Nellore, Nandyal, Kadapa, Annamayya and Tirupati districts may receive heavy rainfall.
Farmers, who are still dealing with the damage caused by cyclone Arnab, are worried that another storm could destroy the standing crops that remain.
